- - - - - - - - - - | Luke Gwilliam bronze sculptures of nude male torsos c1955 Item # 5652 Click HERE to inquire about this item Unsigned pair of Luke Gwilliam bronze sculptures of nude male torsos c1955 Luke Guilliam was born 1911 and died in 1989. Gwilliam joined the New York art scene in 1951 after graduating from Worchester Art Museum when he was forty years old. His paintings were very well received in the 1950 and 1960's,often mentioned in the New York Times exhibit reviews. He was included in museum exhibits at the River Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, the Society of Four Arts, and the Brooklyn Museum. This pair of bronzes each measure 14 and three quarter inches high.

- - - - - - - - | Modern sculpture New Moon Blue Man by Brian McCarthy Item # 5560 Click HERE to inquire about this item This contemporary metal figure was created by sculptor Brian McCarthy. Signed on the base. Brian McCarthy is from New London, CT. Brian is best known for "figural abstract" welded steel sculptures. He was born June 16, 1945, and began art school at age 6, studying under Thomas Hughes Ingle (Show Whitney Museum 1956). He was later influenced by Harris Rodvogin. Brian formalized his art education at the Connecticut College in New London from 1969 to 1973. Presently his work is in private collections in South Hampton, NY, Connecticut College, German Naval Headquarters in Eichenforde, Germany, and several other American and European collections. All works are meant to be displayed outdoors. Three large pieces are on display in "The Sculpture Mile" show in Madison, CT. These exhibits are sponsored by the Hollycroft Foundation, Ivoryton, CT, and are curated by William Bendig, the director and former editor of Art Gallery Magazine. The New Moon Blue Man sculpture measures 105 inches tall. It was finished in 2002.

Carved from a single block of wood and hand painted. This Guanyin dates from the middle 19th century in China. Notice how well carved the fingers are. This is finely carved sculpture with a lovely old patina.

This "Cooper Work Shop" diorama is in excellent condition and dates from the mid to late 19th century in England. This diorama depicts a barrel makers shop with his help and tools. The entire inside is filled with all sorts of items. The barrels are put together with real wood and brass. This antique diorama measures 17 and one half inches wide by 11 inches high by 7 and one half inches deep.
